Six villages and the farm country along the Grand
Woolwich Township takes in Elmira, St. Jacobs, Breslau, Conestogo, Maryhill and Heidelberg, with Mennonite farm country, hamlets and the Grand and Conestogo rivers between them. Elmira is the largest town and the township's administrative centre, St. Jacobs is a mill village on the Conestogo, and Breslau sits on the Grand River across from Kitchener. Housing runs from homes built before 1960 around the main streets of Elmira and St. Jacobs, to the 1990s homes of Conestogo, to Breslau, where more than four in five homes were built in 2006 or later. The 2021 census counted about 9,360 homes in the township, about three in four of them single detached houses.
