Aberfoyle

Aberfoyle is the centre of Puslinch Township, at the headwaters of Mill Creek on Brock Road, about 3 km south of Guelph. The township office is at 7404 Wellington Road 34, and the grounds at 23 Brock Road South hold the Optimist Recreation Centre and the Puslinch Community Centre, with a lit ball diamond, a soccer pitch, tennis and pickleball courts, a playground and a horse paddock around them. In winter the outdoor arena at the Optimist Recreation Centre has free public skates. The Puslinch branch of the Wellington County Library sits beside the Millennium Garden, a flower garden built in 2000 inside the old stone foundation of the Lewis General Store. Highway 401 is a short drive south.

George Schatz built a sawmill here in 1831 and laid out lots, and the settlement, then mostly German families, was called Schatzville. John McFarlane, from Aberfoyle in Perthshire, Scotland, arrived in 1841, ran the first general store and gave the village its name. The post office opened in 1854, with Samuel Falconbridge as the first postmaster. Aberfoyle is now the administrative centre of Puslinch Township.

The census gives no figures for Aberfoyle on its own, so these are the figures for the whole of Puslinch Township. The 2021 census counted about 2,950 homes in Puslinch. More than nine in ten are single detached houses. About one in five were built in 1960 or earlier and about one in five between 1961 and 1980. More than a quarter were built between 1981 and 2000, and about a third in 2001 or later.

Brock Road runs north from Aberfoyle to Guelph, and Guelph City Hall is about 16 km away by road, a drive of about 18 minutes by the Hanlon Expressway. Highway 401 is about 2 km south, at the Brock Road interchange. GO Transit's Aberfoyle Park and Ride, at Brock Road and McLean Road, has GO buses to Waterloo, Guelph, Hamilton, Mississauga and Vaughan.

The Optimist Recreation Centre at 23 Brock Road South has an outdoor arena with two hockey nets and a scoreboard, used for skating in winter and ball hockey and roller sports the rest of the year, and a full-sized gym. Beside it, the Puslinch Community Centre has the Archie MacRobbie Hall, with a full kitchen and a patio, and the smaller Alf Hales Room. The grounds have a lit baseball diamond with stands, a soccer pitch, three tennis courts lined for six pickleball courts, a playground, picnic tables and a horse paddock. The Puslinch branch of the Wellington County Library is at 29 Brock Road South, beside the Millennium Garden.
