Rural West Perth

Rural West Perth covers almost all of the municipality: about 57,100 hectares of farmland and woodlots around Mitchell, in the old townships of Logan to the north, Hibbert to the west and Fullarton to the south. Dublin and Staffa are small villages among the farms, and Brodhagen, Bornholm, Carlingford, Cromarty, Fullarton, Russeldale and St. Columban are hamlets. The Sawyer Preservation Lot on Line 12 is a mature forest with a 2.4 km walking loop through 34 kinds of trees, and the Fullarton Conservation Trail winds through about 1.5 km of woods and wetland. Dublin Lions Park has a playground, a lit ball diamond and a pavilion beside Dublin Hall.

West Perth's villages carry the names of their first settlers and their homelands. Dublin was named for the hometown of the settler Joseph Kidd and was first called Carronbrook, Staffa is named for an island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, and Brodhagen for Charles Broadhagen, who came from Germany in the 1860s. Fullarton is named for John Fullarton, a director of the Canada Company. On January 1, 1998, the Town of Mitchell and the townships of Logan, Hibbert and Fullarton joined to form West Perth.

The 2021 census counted about 3,570 homes in West Perth. Leaving out Mitchell and the West Perth side of Monkton, the countryside, its villages and its hamlets had about 1,430 homes, and nearly all of them are single detached houses. Nearly six in ten were built in 1960 or earlier and about one in seven between 1961 and 1980. About one in eight were built between 1981 and 2000, and about one in eight in 2001 or later.

Highway 8 crosses the municipality from Stratford through Mitchell and Dublin toward Seaforth, and Highway 23 runs north from Mitchell toward Listowel and south toward London. Perth roads and lines link the farms with Mitchell, Monkton, Stratford and St. Marys. Stratford City Hall is about 21 km from Mitchell by road, and London City Hall about 62 km.

Dublin Lions Park at 7015 Helen Street has a pavilion, a playground and a lit ball diamond, beside Dublin Hall, which seats 190. Cromarty Park on 21 Line in Staffa has a playground, a pavilion and a lit ball diamond. Fullarton Centennial Park on Road 163A has two ball diamonds, a playground and a pavilion, with the Fullarton Conservation Trail beside it. Brodhagen Park on Perth Line 44 has a horseshoe pavilion and a lit ball diamond, and the Brodhagen Community Centre next door has a licensed hall with a hardwood dance floor. Mitchell's arena, pool and shops are a short drive from anywhere in the township.

• St. Patrick's School — JK to Grade 2. The Catholic primary school for most of the countryside, including Dublin, Staffa, Cromarty and Brodhagen, on Road 180 in Dublin.
• St. Columban School — Grades 3 to 8. The Catholic elementary and middle school after St. Patrick's, in St. Columban.
• Holy Name of Mary School — JK to Grade 8. The Catholic elementary school for the south, including Fullarton and Russeldale, on Peel Street North in St. Marys.
• St. Patrick's School — JK to Grade 8. The Catholic elementary school for the east, including Carlingford and Bornholm, on Road 145 in Kinkora.
• St. Michael Catholic Secondary School — Grades 9 to 12. The Catholic secondary school, on Oakdale Avenue in Stratford.
• Jeanne Sauvé Catholic School — JK to Grade 8. The Catholic French immersion school from JK, on Grange Street in Stratford.
