What it's like

Drumbo is a village in the middle of Blandford-Blenheim, a few minutes north of Highway 401 between Woodstock and Cambridge. Centre Street is the village's main gathering place: the Drumbo park at 41 Centre Street has two ball diamonds, soccer pitches, two playgrounds, two pavilions, a beach volleyball court and a splash pad, and the Drumbo Agricultural Society's fairgrounds next door host the Drumbo Fall Fair. The Drumbo Museum is on the fairgrounds, in the former Wolverton railway station.

History

Drumbo grew up in the old Blenheim Township. Henry Muma, a land agent, founded the Drumbo post office in 1854, started a brick works in 1874 and built the Muma Block on Wilmot Street North in 1890. The Drumbo Fall Fair has run for more than 150 years, and two plaques at the fairgrounds mark its 100th and 150th fairs.

The homes

The census counts Drumbo with farms around it, so these figures are estimates for the village. They come to about 320 homes, nearly nine in ten of them single detached houses and about one in twelve in small apartment buildings. About four in ten were built in 1960 or earlier and about one in five between 1961 and 1980. About one in eight were built between 1981 and 2000, about one in five between 2001 and 2015, and a few between 2016 and 2021.

Getting around

Parks and daily life

The Drumbo park at 41 Centre Street has two ball diamonds, soccer pitches with several fields, a pickleball court, a beach volleyball court, two playgrounds, two covered pavilions, including the Lions pavilion by the diamonds, a canteen and a splash pad, open daily from June to September.
