Kiwanis Park, Kitchener

On a hot summer day in Kiwanis Park, you walk barefoot into the 1-acre lake-like pool through its beach-style entry and feel the cool water rise. Canoes slide into the Grand River from Marsland Landing, and paddlers drift past under the trees along the bank. Out on the leash-free dog park, about a kilometre's walk from the pool, dogs run in wide circles. River Ridge Community Park and the Woolwich Street Woodlot give the streets their own green spaces, close to the water.

Kiwanis Park forms part of the City's Bridgeport North planning community. The City's 2021 estimates count about 770 homes there. Nearly nine in ten are single detached houses, and row houses and low-rise apartments make up most of the rest. In the 2021 census, homes in the wider surrounding area span every era: about a third were built before 1981, about a fifth between 1981 and 2000, and about two in five after 2001.

The nearest ION stations, Kitchener City Hall and Central Station, are about 6 km away. The Conestoga Parkway has a partial interchange at Lancaster Street, south of the area. The Bridgeport Community Centre, at 20 Tyson Drive, is about 2.2 km away.

The Kiwanis Park pool is open from June to September. The park also has a playground with an accessible swing, athletic fields, beach volleyball courts and shelters that can be rented by the hour. A free leash-free dog park is about a kilometre's walk from the pool, and the canoe launch on the Grand River is free to use. The park is open from dawn to dusk year-round, with free parking off Kiwanis Park Drive. River Ridge Community Park, at 144 Hawkswood Drive, covers about 2.8 hectares. Bingemans is about 3.7 km away. The Breithaupt Centre indoor pool is about 4.4 km away.
