What it's like

In Southdale, Mausser Park on Stirling Avenue South opens up wide lawns in the middle of the streets, and Veterans' Park on Lorne Crescent is a peaceful green spot close by. On Lorne Crescent and Spadina Road, small post-war homes built for returning veterans line the curving streets of the St. Mary's Heritage Conservation District. The Mill ION station is a short walk away, so downtown is minutes from your door. For a longer walk, the paths of Lakeside Park and Meinzinger Park are close by.

The homes

The City's 2021 estimates count about 2,300 homes in the Southdale planning community. Apartment buildings under five storeys make up about half, and single detached houses just over a quarter. Row houses make up about one in twelve. In the 2021 census, about two in five homes in the surrounding area were built in 1960 or earlier, and about a third between 1961 and 1980. The St. Mary's district's houses are mostly one or one-and-a-half storeys, with some duplexes on Lorne Crescent.

Getting around

Mill ION station is about 0.8 km away. Borden station is about 1.5 km away. Grand River Transit's 3 Ottawa South route runs between Frederick and the Sunrise Centre via Queen and Mill. The 205 Ottawa iXpress also runs via Mill. The Laurentian Power Centre is about 0.8 km away. The hospital site WRHN @ Queen's Blvd is about 1.3 km away.

Mausser Park, at 219 Stirling Avenue South, covers about 4.6 hectares. Veterans' Park, at 75 Lorne Crescent, covers about 1.2 hectares.
