Hamlet Ward, Stratford

A neighbourhood folded between the core and the green riverbank, where century homes line its older streets. It is the kind of quiet that comes from being surrounded by everything and hurried by none of it.

The 2021 census counts about 1,700 homes in Hamlet Ward. Just over half are single detached houses, about one in six are apartments in buildings under five storeys, and about one in nine are semi-detached. About four in ten were built in 1960 or earlier, about a quarter between 1961 and 1980, and about a quarter between 1981 and 2000.

Stratford Transit's 4 Queensland and 7 Industrial routes serve Hamlet Ward. The transit terminal downtown is about 1.3 km away. Erie Street, John Street South, West Gore Street, Huron Street and Lorne Avenue West are the main streets.

The Shakespearean Gardens sit on the river at the ward's north edge. Marsh Pond Park, at about 3 hectares, and Redford Park are the largest neighbourhood parks, with Monteith Avenue Park nearby. Stratford General Hospital is in the ward, and the T.J. Dolan Natural Area runs along its west side.

• Jeanne Sauvé Catholic School — JK to Grade 8. The Catholic French immersion school, on Grange Street, with immersion from Junior Kindergarten.
• St. Michael Catholic Secondary School — Grades 9 to 12. The Catholic secondary school, on Oakdale Avenue.
