What it's like
Hales Barton spreads along Stone Road East and Gordon Street, beside the University of Guelph Arboretum and its gardens and woodland trails. Its streets range from established crescents to homes built in the last few years, with Jubilee Park and Macalister Park close to home. At its heart, the Village by the Arboretum is a village in the truest sense: a gated 55+ community with the Arboretum's gardens right next door, where the pace is gentler and the calendar is somehow always full.
The homes
The 2021 census counted about 2,500 homes in Hales Barton. About six in ten are single detached houses, and about a quarter are row houses. About four in ten homes were built between 1981 and 2000, and about four in ten between 2011 and 2021, with about three in ten built between 2016 and 2021 alone.
