Downtown Woodstock, Woodstock

The heart of the Friendly City, and it wears the title honestly, familiar shops and friendly counters along Dundas Street, market mornings, and the old town hall keeping gentle watch over a square that people have been crossing on their way to somewhere good for a century and a half.

The 2021 census counts about 1,000 homes in Downtown Woodstock. More than half are apartments in buildings under five storeys, and about a quarter are single detached houses. About two in three were built in 1960 or earlier.

The Woodstock Transit terminal, at 623 Dundas Street, is downtown, and all seven city bus routes start and end there. Woodstock's VIA Rail station is about 0.5 km from City Hall. Dundas Street, Peel Street, Hunter Street and Wellington Street are the main streets.

The Woodstock Museum, in the Old Town Hall, looks onto Civic Square, and the Woodstock Art Gallery, City Hall, the Woodstock Public Library and the Oxford County Court House are all downtown. Victoria Park is about 0.5 km away, and Southside Park about 1 km.

• Roch Carrier French Immersion Public School — Grades 1 to 8 in French immersion. The public French immersion school for these streets, on Sloane Street.
• St. Patrick's Catholic School — JK to Grade 8. The Catholic elementary school for downtown, on Parkinson Road.
• Holy Family French Immersion Catholic School — SK to Grade 8 in French immersion. The Catholic French immersion school, on Oxford Street.
• St. Mary's Catholic High School — Grades 9 to 12. The Catholic secondary school, on Juliana Drive, with Extended French.
