Fiddlesticks, Cambridge

Fiddlesticks is a welcoming corner of North Galt, gathered around the Fiddlesticks Community Centre in the historic Duncan Ferguson Homestead on Cowan Boulevard. On Saturday mornings, Lions Can-Amera Park comes alive with mini soccer games and cheering from the sidelines, and in winter its outdoor rink fills with skaters. Clemens Mill Public School and St. Margaret Catholic School are both a short walk from home. Quiet crescents of 1980s and 1990s homes curve off Saginaw Parkway and Cowan Boulevard.

The 2021 census counted about 1,050 homes in Fiddlesticks. About two in three are single detached houses, and row houses make up about a quarter. About two in five homes were built between 1981 and 1990, and nearly two in five between 1991 and 2000. About one in eleven were built between 2016 and 2021.

Grand River Transit's 53 Franklin, 60 Burnett and 65 Saginaw routes serve the neighbourhood. The Can-Amera stop on the 302 ION Bus, which runs to Fairway ION station in Kitchener, is about 2.0 km away, and Stage 2 ION, which the Region has approved and is now designing, plans a Can-Amera station at the same distance. Saginaw Parkway runs along the north side, Avenue Road along the south and Cowan Boulevard and Burnett Avenue along the east.

Lions Can-Amera Park covers about 6 hectares, with mini soccer fields, a soccer field, ball diamonds, an outdoor rink and outdoor fitness equipment. The Duncan Ferguson Homestead, at 71 Cowan Boulevard, covers about 3.6 hectares and holds the Fiddlesticks Community Centre. Clemens Mill Public School, on Saginaw Parkway, and St. Margaret Catholic School, on Cowan Boulevard, are in the neighbourhood. The Clemens Mill branch of the Cambridge Public Library, at 50 Saginaw Parkway, is about 0.8 km away. The Fiddlesticks Neighbourhood Association serves the area.
