What it's like
St. Andrews Hills lies along the west bank of the Grand River, south of Downtown Galt. Glenmorris Street and Tait Street climb gently away from the water past older homes and mature trees. On summer days, the George Hancock outdoor pool rings with splashing and laughter. The Living Levee Trail follows the river's edge, where herons stand in the shallows and the water sparkles in the afternoon light. The Fraser Woodlot and Stirling MacGregor Park add quiet green corners close to home.
The homes
The 2021 census counted about 2,200 homes in St. Andrews Hills. About seven in ten are single detached houses. Apartment buildings under five storeys make up about one in twelve, and taller apartment buildings about one in sixteen. About two in five homes were built in 1960 or earlier, and about a quarter between 1961 and 1980. About a quarter were built between 1981 and 2000.
