Preston Heights, Cambridge

Preston Heights sits on the rise west of old Preston, with Preston Parkway curving through its middle. John Erb Park, beside Parkway Public School, is the neighbourhood's playground and gathering place. Ravine Park and the Linden Drive Natural Area bring quiet woods and birdsong close to the houses. On weekend mornings, the Fountain Street soccer fields fill with teams in bright jerseys. The Blair Trail leads down toward the Grand River for a peaceful walk.

The 2021 census counts Preston Heights together with Blair, and the two had about 1,950 homes. Nearly half are single detached houses. Row houses make up about one in five, apartment buildings under five storeys about one in six and taller apartment buildings about one in eleven. About a third of the homes were built between 1961 and 1980, about one in five between 1981 and 1990 and about one in five between 2016 and 2021.

Grand River Transit's 61 Preston and 67 Eagle-Pinebush routes, the 203 Maple Grove route and the 206 Coronation iXpress serve the neighbourhood. Stage 2 ION, which the Region has approved and is now designing, plans a Preston station about 1.4 km away. Preston Parkway and Fountain Street are the main roads, and Highway 401 has an interchange at Fountain Street (exit 275) at the north end. The Blair Trail runs nearby.

John Erb Park, at 500 Preston Parkway, covers about 2.5 hectares, with a playground. Ravine Park and Linden Drive Park, at 680 Linden Drive, add more, and the Linden Drive Natural Area covers about 5.5 hectares. The Fountain Street soccer facility, about 22 hectares, has several soccer fields and a rugby pitch. Moyer's Blair Landing gives access to the Grand River. Parkway Public School is in the neighbourhood. The Preston branch of the Cambridge Public Library is about 1.6 km away, and Riverside Park about 2.5 km.
