Elgin Park, Cambridge

Elgin Park is a pleasant North Galt neighbourhood on the rise east of Hespeler Road. Gordon Chaplin Park, on Roxboro Road, is its open green heart, with a cricket pitch where matches fill summer weekends with cheering. The Mill Creek corridor runs a wooded ribbon along the neighbourhood's edge, cool and shady on hot days. Perbeck Park tucks a small playground between the houses. The shops of Hespeler Road and Downtown Galt are both a short drive away.

The 2021 census counted about 1,600 homes in Elgin Park. About half are single detached houses. Row houses make up about one in five, and apartment buildings under five storeys about one in six. About two in five homes were built between 1961 and 1980, and about a quarter in 1960 or earlier. About one in eight were built between 2016 and 2021.

Grand River Transit's 51 Hespeler, 53 Franklin and 58 Elgin North routes serve the neighbourhood, and the 302 ION Bus to Fairway ION station in Kitchener stops at the Delta, about 1.2 km away. Stage 2 ION, which the Region has approved and is now designing, plans a Delta station on the neighbourhood's western edge, about 1.2 km from its centre. Hespeler Road runs along the west side, and Elgin Street North, Avenue Road and Clyde Road are the main streets.

Gordon Chaplin Park, at 55 Roxboro Road, covers about 5 hectares, with a playground, a soccer field, a ball diamond, a basketball court, a cricket pitch and outdoor fitness equipment. The Mill Creek corridor adds about 3 hectares of green space, and Perbeck Park has a playground. St. Peter Catholic School, on Avenue Road, is in the neighbourhood. The Clemens Mill branch of the Cambridge Public Library is about 2.1 km away, and the Queen's Square branch about 2.0 km.

• Avenue Road Public School — Grades 7 and 8. The middle school for Elgin Park.
• Galt Collegiate Institute — Grades 9 to 12. The public secondary school, with French immersion and extended French.
• St. Peter Catholic School — JK to Grade 8. The Catholic elementary school on Avenue Road, in the neighbourhood, with French immersion from Grade 1.
• St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School — Grades 9 to 12. The nearest Catholic secondary school, about 2.1 km away.
