What it's like
Southview is a neighbourhood of quiet crescents in south Galt, gathered around Churchill Park. Each July the sound of bagpipes carries across the park during the Cambridge Highland Games. On ordinary days the same lawns are busy with ball games and dog walks, and in winter the Duncan McIntosh Arena keeps the ice ready. Hill 60 Park and Birkinshaw Park tuck playgrounds between the streets. The Moffat Creek Trail and the Cambridge to Paris Rail Trail lead out into the countryside.
The homes
The 2021 census counted about 2,900 homes in Southview. Nearly six in ten are single detached houses. Apartment buildings under five storeys make up about one in five, and semi-detached houses about one in seven. About three in ten homes were built between 1961 and 1980, and nearly two in five between 1981 and 2000. About a quarter were built after 2001.
