Victoria Highlands, Cambridge

Victoria Highlands climbs the west bank of the Grand River above Downtown Galt, on streets shaded by tall old trees. Victoria Park is its heart, with tennis courts, a cricket pitch and broad lawns where you hear the knock of a bat on summer afternoons. Along Salisbury Avenue and Blenheim Road, older brick and stone houses sit back behind deep front gardens. At the neighbourhood's western edge, the trails of the Devil's Creek Natural Area slip into the woods along the creek. The shops and restaurants of Downtown Galt are a short walk downhill.

The 2021 census counted about 2,050 homes in Victoria Highlands. About seven in ten are single detached houses. Apartment buildings of five storeys or more and apartment buildings under five storeys each make up about one in ten. About two in five homes were built in 1960 or earlier, and about three in ten between 1961 and 1980. About one in seven were built after 2006.

Grand River Transit's 55 Grand Ridge and 57 Blair routes and the 206 Coronation iXpress serve the neighbourhood. Ainslie Street Terminal, where the 302 ION Bus starts its run to Fairway ION station in Kitchener, is about 1.2 km away. The planned Cambridge Terminus station on Stage 2 ION, which the Region has approved and is now designing, is about 1.3 km away. Blair Road, Blenheim Road and Salisbury Avenue are the main streets. The Devil's Creek Trail runs along the west side.

Victoria Park, at 99 Wentworth Avenue, covers about 15 hectares, with a playground, five tennis courts, a cricket pitch and ball diamonds. The Devil's Creek Natural Area, about 20 hectares, has woodland trails. Lynn Freure Park has a playground. Highland Public School is on Salisbury Avenue, in the neighbourhood. The Queen's Square branch of the Cambridge Public Library is about 0.8 km away, and Mill Race Park about 1.1 km.

• St. Andrew's Public School — Grades 7 and 8. The middle school, continuing French immersion.
• Southwood Secondary School — Grades 9 to 12. The public secondary school for most of the neighbourhood.
• Galt Collegiate Institute — Grades 9 to 12. The public secondary school for the northern streets, including Blenheim Road and Wentworth Avenue, with French immersion and extended French.
• St. Gregory Catholic School — JK to Grade 8. The nearest Catholic elementary school, about 1.0 km away.
• Monsignor Doyle Catholic Secondary School — Grades 9 to 12. The nearest Catholic secondary school, about 3.2 km away.
