Saginaw, Cambridge

Saginaw is a neighbourhood of newer streets along Saginaw Parkway in North Galt, wrapped around a large natural area. The Portuguese Swamp, about 43 hectares, brings frogsong on spring evenings and bright colour to its trees in the fall. A. Wayne Taylor Park, on Glenvalley Drive, and Witmer Park, off Arthur Fach Drive, have playgrounds and sports fields close to home. Trails like the Hilborn Trail link the streets to the woods and wetlands. The Clemens Mill branch of the library and St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School sit together at the western end of the parkway.

The 2021 census counted about 2,200 homes in Saginaw. About two in three are single detached houses. Row houses make up about one in five, and semi-detached houses about one in eight. About a third of the homes were built between 1991 and 2000, and nearly two in three after 2001, including about one in seven between 2016 and 2021.

Grand River Transit's 60 Burnett and 65 Saginaw routes serve the neighbourhood. The Can-Amera stop on the 302 ION Bus, which runs to Fairway ION station in Kitchener, is about 3.5 km away, and Stage 2 ION, which the Region has approved and is now designing, plans a Can-Amera station at the same distance. Saginaw Parkway is the main street, and Franklin Boulevard and Townline Road lead north to Highway 401.

A. Wayne Taylor Park, on Glenvalley Drive, covers about 4.6 hectares, and Witmer Park, at 100 Arthur Fach Drive, about 2.2 hectares; both have playgrounds. The Portuguese Swamp, the Townline Natural Area and the Moss Drive and Lumb Drive wetlands add green space. The neighbourhood has soccer fields, ball diamonds, a multi-use court and a volleyball court. Saginaw Public School, St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School and St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School are in the neighbourhood, and the Clemens Mill branch of the Cambridge Public Library shares St. Benedict's address at 50 Saginaw Parkway.

• Clemens Mill Public School — JK to Grade 8. The public school for the western streets, including Paperbirch Drive and Moss Drive, and the middle school for the Saginaw Public School streets, with French immersion.
• Blue Heron Public School — JK to Grade 6. The public school for the northern streets off Arthur Fach Drive, with French immersion from Grade 2.
• William G. Davis Public School — Grades 7 and 8. The middle school for the Blue Heron Public School streets.
• Preston High School — Grades 9 to 12. The public secondary school for most of Saginaw.
• Galt Collegiate Institute — Grades 9 to 12. The public secondary school for the Clemens Mill Public School streets, with French immersion and extended French.
• St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School — JK to Grade 8. The Catholic elementary school on Saginaw Parkway, in the neighbourhood.
• St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School — Grades 9 to 12. The Catholic secondary school on Saginaw Parkway, in the neighbourhood.
