Carriage Crossing, Waterloo

Carriage Crossing sits on Waterloo's northeast edge, where the streets give way to RIM Park's fields and the Grand River. On summer evenings, walkers follow the park's paved trail loops down to the river, which runs along its edge for a kilometre and a half. Beyond them, golfers tee off at the Grey Silo Golf Course, beside the Elam Martin farmstead, founded by a Mennonite family in 1820. In winter, the Manulife Sportsplex, with four ice pads and a library branch under one roof, keeps the park busy all year.

Carriage Crossing forms part of the City's Rural East / Country Squire planning district. The City's 2021 census profile counts about 530 homes in that district. Just over half are single detached houses. Row houses make up nearly a quarter, and apartment buildings of five storeys or more about one in seven. In the 2021 census, homes in the surrounding area were built over several decades: about three in ten between 2016 and 2021, about one in five between 2001 and 2005, about one in six between 1991 and 2000, and about one in eight between 1981 and 1990.

Grand River Transit's 31 Columbia route and the 202 University iXpress run within about 1.5 km. University Avenue East runs along the neighbourhood's south side. Conestoga ION station is about 4.1 km away, and Conestoga Mall about 3.9 km.

RIM Park, at 2001 University Avenue East, is a city park of about 200 hectares, with about 7 km of paved trail loops, playgrounds, ball diamonds and playing fields. Its Manulife Sportsplex and Healthy Living Centre has four ice pads, a field and two gymnasiums, and the Eastside Branch of the Waterloo Public Library opened there in 2022. The Grey Silo Golf Course covers about 64 hectares. The Elam Martin Farmstead is a sixth-generation Mennonite farm complex. Deerfoot Park, at 330 Deerfoot Trail, and Grey Silo Park, at 290 Grey Silo Road, have playgrounds, and the Deerfoot Reserve is a natural corridor.
