What it's like
Lakeshore South, once known as Sunnydale, is a settled neighbourhood of 1970s streets in Waterloo's north end. On cold mornings, the arena doors at the Albert McCormick Community Centre on Parkside Drive swing open for the first skate of the day. Across the road, the two tennis courts at Heasley Park echo with long rallies on summer evenings. Twin Oaks Park, on Glen Forrest Boulevard, shelters a pocket of woods among the houses. The playing fields of Westmount Sports Park are a short trip west.
The homes
Lakeshore South is the City's Lakeshore planning district. The City's 2021 census profile counts about 2,650 homes there. About half are single detached houses. Apartment buildings under five storeys make up about one in five, and row houses about one in nine. In the 2021 census, about seven in ten homes in the surrounding area were built between 1961 and 1980, and about one in ten between 1981 and 1990.
