Vista Hills, Waterloo

Vista Hills is built on rolling ground at the southern edge of the Forested Hills, and its newer streets climb and curve with the land. Off Sundew Drive, a path slips into the Vista Hills Reserve, five hectares of woods right behind the houses. At Beechdrops Park, a playground and a small field sit at the end of a quiet street. On clear mornings, walkers follow the hydro corridor path along a ribbon of open grass.

Vista Hills forms part of the City's Columbia Hills planning district. The City's 2021 census profile counts about 2,100 homes in that district. About two in three are single detached houses. Row houses make up about one in seven, and apartment buildings of five storeys or more and semi-detached houses about one in twelve each. In the 2021 census, more than nine in ten homes in the surrounding area were built after 2001: about two in five between 2001 and 2005, and about one in five between 2016 and 2021.

Grand River Transit's 31 Columbia route runs within about a kilometre, and the 13 Laurelwood route within about 1.5 km. University of Waterloo ION station is about 4.7 km away. Columbia Street West runs along the north side. The Boardwalk shopping centre is about 3.5 km away.

The Vista Hills Reserve, at 586 Sundew Drive, is a 5.2-hectare natural area. Beechdrops Park, at 408 Beechdrops Drive, has a playground and a playing field. Sundew Park, Autumn Willow Park, Wild Rye Park and Rock Elm Park have playgrounds, and Autumn Willow Park an outdoor rink. Vista Hills Park, on Sundew Drive, has a basketball court. The Vista Hills Hydro Corridor is a 2.1-hectare green strip. The Forested Hills, with more than 12 km of trails, are about 0.8 km away. The John M. Harper Branch of the Waterloo Public Library is about 2.7 km away. The Vista Hills Neighbourhood Association serves the area.
