What it's like
Colonial Acres grew up after the Second World War, under the Veterans Land Act, with many of its houses built by local builder Charlie Voelker. On Colonial Drive, mature trees now shade modest houses and wide, open lawns. Deer Run Park, off Deer Run Drive, has a playground among the newer streets to the north. The green corridor of the Williamsburg Link carries a path between back yards, bright with wildflowers in summer. Conestoga Mall's shops and the ION terminus are about a kilometre away.
The homes
Colonial Acres forms part of the City's Lincoln planning district, which also takes in Kingscourt and Dunvegan. The City's 2021 census profile counts about 3,600 homes in that district. Just over half are single detached houses. Apartment buildings under five storeys make up about one in six, taller apartment buildings about one in seven, and row houses about one in ten. In the 2021 census, homes in the surrounding area were built over several decades: about a quarter between 1961 and 1980, about a quarter between 1981 and 1990, about one in five between 1991 and 2000, and about one in five after 2001.
Getting around
Conestoga ION station, the northern end of the line, is about 1.3 km away. Grand River Transit's 6 Bridge-Courtland, 29 Keats-University and 31 Columbia routes run nearby. The Conestoga Parkway has an interchange at King Street North, beside Conestoga Mall, about 1.1 km away.
Parks and daily life
Deer Run Park, at 611 Deer Run Drive, covers about 1.2 hectares and has a playground. The Williamsburg Link is a 5.5-hectare green corridor. Anndale Park, at 284 Grant Crescent, is a 10-hectare natural area with a playground and a toboggan hill. Eastbridge Green and the Colonial Creek Link are just to the east. Conestoga Mall, at 550 King Street North, has more than 130 stores, a food court and a cinema. The Wissler Old Abbey group serves part of the area.
