Beechwood West, Waterloo

Beechwood West spreads south of Columbia Street West, on streets laced with woods and green links. Paths through the Roxton and Leighland woods, each about seven hectares, lead under tall trees just steps from front doors. Along the Clair Creek Link, you can hear the creek running beside the path in spring. Regency Park, on Roxton Drive, opens up wide fields, a ball diamond and a playground. On Brynhurst Boulevard, Mary Johnston Public School sits beside its own playing fields.

The City's 2021 census profile counts about 2,500 homes in the Beechwood West planning district, which also takes in Rummelhardt. Just under three in five are single detached houses, and row houses make up about three in ten. Semi-detached houses make up most of the rest. In the 2021 census, about half the homes in the surrounding area were built between 1981 and 1990, and about three in ten between 1991 and 2000.

Grand River Transit's 13 Laurelwood and 29 Keats-University routes run nearby, along with the 201 Fischer-Hallman iXpress. University of Waterloo ION station is about 2.7 km away. Fischer-Hallman Road, Erb Street West and Columbia Street West are the main roads. The Boardwalk shopping centre is about 2.4 km away.

Regency Park, at 211 Roxton Drive, covers about 7.4 hectares, with a playground, a ball diamond and a playing field. Roxton Park and Leighland Park are natural areas of about 7.4 and 6.7 hectares. McCrae Park, at 137 Sandford Fleming Drive, has a basketball court and an outdoor rink, and Rummelhardt Park, at 590 Beechwood Drive, a playground. Amberwood Park and the Clair Creek Link add more green space. The John M. Harper Branch of the Waterloo Public Library is about 1.8 km away, and Laurelwood Park about 1.5 km. Homes associations here include Beechwood West I and II, Upper Beechwood I and II and Village on Clair Creek.
