Westvale, Waterloo

Westvale is a neighbourhood of curving 1980s streets on Waterloo's southwest edge. Westvale Park, nearly four hectares on Westvale Drive, spreads a broad lawn beside Westvale Public School, and on summer mornings it smells of fresh-cut grass. The footpaths of the Westfield and Heather Hill links slip between the houses, handy shortcuts to the park and the school. Bolingbrooke Park adds another playground farther along Westvale Drive. The shops and restaurants of The Boardwalk are about a kilometre away.

The City's 2021 census profile counts about 2,350 homes in the Westvale planning district. Nearly nine in ten are single detached houses, and row houses make up about one in eleven. In the 2021 census, about half the homes in the surrounding area were built between 1981 and 1990, and nearly three in ten between 1991 and 2000.

Grand River Transit's 4 Glasgow-Margaret and 5 Erb routes run nearby, along with the 202 University iXpress. Laurier–Waterloo Park ION station is about 3.3 km away. Erb Street West and Fischer-Hallman Road are the main roads nearby. The Boardwalk shopping centre, on Ira Needles Boulevard, is about 1.0 km away.

Westvale Park, at 270 Westvale Drive, covers about 3.8 hectares, with a playground and a toboggan hill. Bolingbrooke Park, at 470 Westvale Drive, has a playground, an outdoor rink and a toboggan hill. West Wind Park, at 565 Westfield Drive, has a playground, a ball diamond and a rink, and Red River Park, at 500 Red River Drive, a ball diamond. The Westfield Links and the Heather Hill Link are green paths. Holy Rosary Catholic School is about 0.3 km away. The Boardwalk is about 1.0 km away, and the Westmount Golf and Country Club about 1.6 km. The Westvale Neighbourhood Association serves the area.
