Columbia Forest, Waterloo

15Homes for sale today

What it's like

Columbia Forest backs onto the Forested Hills, the largest woodland in the city, with more than 12 km of walking and hiking trails. Many of its streets are named for native trees, from Butternut Avenue and Black Cherry Street to White Elm Boulevard and Mountain Maple Avenue. Step onto a trail and the hills of the Waterloo Moraine rise and fall under the canopy. Back among the houses, Blue Beech Park keeps a playground ringed by trees.

The homes

Columbia Forest forms part of the City's Columbia Hills planning district. The City's 2021 census profile counts about 2,100 homes in that district. About two in three are single detached houses. Row houses make up about one in seven, and apartment buildings of five storeys or more and semi-detached houses about one in twelve each. In the 2021 census, nearly nine in ten homes in the surrounding area were built after 2001, including about one in five between 2016 and 2021.

Getting around

Grand River Transit's 13 Laurelwood route runs nearby. Research and Technology ION station is about 4.3 km away. Laurelwood Drive, Erbsville Road and Columbia Street West are the main roads. The John M. Harper Branch of the Waterloo Public Library is about 2.0 km away.

Parks and daily life

The Forested Hills Environmentally Sensitive Policy Area, reached from Columbia Forest Court, covers about 123 hectares and takes in part of the Waterloo Moraine. White Cedar Forest is a 2.9-hectare woodland. Blue Beech Park, at 529 Blue Beech Boulevard, and the Blue Beech Link each have a playground, and the link a playing field. Black Cherry, Butternut, White Elm, Royal Fern and Mountain Maple parks are small parks with playgrounds. Laurel Heights Secondary School and Abraham Erb Public School are in the neighbourhood. The Erbsville School grounds are about 1.5 km away, and Laurelwood Park about 1.7 km.
