What it's like
Many Lexington streets carry names from horse country: Pastern Trail, Bridle Trail, Carriage Way and Maverick Street. Off Pastern Trail, the paths of the Melitzer Woodlot lead into almost 25 hectares of forest, where the traffic noise falls away. At Wintermeyer Park on Forestlawn Road, a ball diamond and a playground sit next to Lexington Public School. The smaller Bomberger Woodlot keeps a stand of trees along University Avenue East. Dansbury Drive and River Oak Drive lead down toward Kiwanis Park and the Grand River.
The homes
The City's 2021 census profile counts about 2,700 homes in the Lexington planning district. Nearly two in three are single detached houses, and row houses make up about one in five. Semi-detached houses and apartment buildings make up most of the rest. In the 2021 census, about two in five homes in the surrounding area were built between 1991 and 2000, nearly a quarter between 1981 and 1990, and about three in ten after 2001.
Getting around
Grand River Transit's 202 University iXpress runs nearby, and the 6 Bridge-Courtland, 29 Keats-University and 31 Columbia routes run within about a kilometre. The Conestoga Parkway has an interchange at University Avenue. Conestoga ION station is about 3.0 km away, and Conestoga Mall about 2.9 km.
